Salvation: Our Blessed Hope

Scripture:

While we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. -Titus 2:13

Encouragement:

Titus 2:13 reminds us that our salvation, the sacrificial gift of Jesus Christ, is not just a past event but a living hope that illuminates our present and future.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I am grateful for Your gift of salvation, which fills my heart with joy and hope. Thank You for rescuing me from darkness and bringing me into Your marvelous light. As I navigate through life, may this blessed hope be my helmet, protecting my mind from fear and despair. Strengthen me, Lord, to live each day in the light of Your salvation. Help me to share this hope with others, that they too may know the joy of Your salvation. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Samuel was on a hike one evening when he got lost in a vast, dark forest. The darkness was overwhelming, and fear gripped his heart. Suddenly, he saw a light in the distance. This light was his salvation, his way out of the darkness. As he moved towards the light, his fear subsided, replaced by an overwhelming sense of joy and hope. Each step brought him closer to freedom, and the darkness of the forest seemed less daunting.

In many ways, we are like Samuel. We live in a world shrouded in spiritual darkness, but the light of our salvation, Jesus Christ, shines brightly. With each step we take toward Him, the darkness recedes, replaced by hope and joy. Our salvation is not just an escape from spiritual death but the entrance into abundant life with Christ.

Through our salvation, we wear the helmet of hope in our spiritual armor. It protects our minds from doubt, fear, and despair, reminding us of our secure future in Christ. This hope is not wishful thinking but a confident expectation of God’s faithfulness.

The Living Word

Scripture:

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. -Hebrews 4:12

Encouragement:

Hebrews 4:12 reveals the dynamic nature of God’s Word. It is not just a collection of ancient texts but a living and active force that has the power to transform our lives.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your living and active Word. I pray that as I read and meditate on it, it will penetrate my heart, revealing areas that need Your healing touch. Help me, Lord, to wield the sword of the Spirit effectively, defending myself against the enemy’s attacks and standing firm in Your truth. May Your Word guide my steps, shape my thoughts, and transform my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

God’s Word is like a mirror that accurately reflects who we are – our thoughts, attitudes, and intentions. It brings clarity, revealing areas of our lives that need change or growth. It is also like a skilled surgeon’s scalpel, able to cut through our innermost being, exposing and healing the hidden wounds of our souls.

Furthermore, God’s Word is an indispensable part of our spiritual armor – the sword of the Spirit. As a sword, it serves both defensive and offensive functions. It defends us from the enemy’s attacks, and it enables us to counterattack, demolishing strongholds and lies with truth.

Pray Without Ceasing

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:17

pray continually.

Encouragement:

At first glance, the command to “pray continuously” may seem impossible.

How can one pray all the time amidst the demands and distractions of daily life?

But when we understand prayer as a constant communion with God, rather than a formal ritual or a set of rehearsed words, it becomes a natural part of our lives.

Imagine a loving father and his child. The child doesn’t schedule appointments to speak with his father. Instead, they share an ongoing conversation that flows naturally throughout their day-to-day activities. Similarly, God invites us into a ceaseless conversation with Him, where we can share our joys, fears, hopes, and struggles.

Prayer is also a vital piece of our spiritual armor. It’s like a communication device that keeps us connected with our Commander, Jesus Christ. Through prayer, we receive direction, strength, and encouragement to face life’s battles.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for the privilege of constant communion with You through prayer. Help me to cultivate a habit of ceaseless prayer, where my thoughts, actions, and words are in constant dialogue with You.

Teach me, Lord, to rely on this communication line, not just in times of distress but also in moments of joy and gratitude. May my life be a continuous prayer, reflecting my dependence on You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Truth In Action

Scripture: James 1:22

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Encouragement:

Being a follower of Christ involves more than just hearing or knowing God’s Word; it requires us to act on it.

Noah loved to read adventure books. He would spend hours engrossed in tales of brave knights and their daring exploits. One day, his small rural town was threatened by a severe flood. Remembering the stories of the courageous knights, Noah decided to act. He helped his neighbors move their belongings to higher ground and comforted those who were scared. His actions made a difference and saved many lives.

Noah’s story illustrates what it means to put faith into action. Like Noah, we are called to be doers of the Word, not just hearers. This means living out the teachings of the Bible in our everyday lives – loving our neighbors, forgiving those who hurt us, standing up for justice, and sharing the love of Christ with others.

Living out our faith is an essential part of our spiritual armor. It’s like wearing the breastplate of righteousness that protects our hearts from the enemy’s attacks. Our actions, guided by God’s Word, become a powerful testimony of our faith.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for Your Word that guides and instructs me. Help me not only to hear Your Word but to act on it. Let my life be a reflection of Your love and grace. May my actions serve as a testament to my faith and draw others closer to You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Feet Fitted With Readiness

Scripture: Ephesians 6:15

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

Picture a postman named John. Every day, John would put on his shoes and deliver mail to everyone in his town, regardless of the weather or circumstances. His shoes were crucial; they allowed him to go where he needed, carrying important news to each household.

We are like John in many ways. As followers of Christ, our ‘shoes’ are the readiness to share the gospel of peace. We are entrusted with the most important message – the good news of Jesus Christ – and we are called to deliver it to everyone we meet.

Our readiness to spread the gospel is an essential part of our spiritual armor. It gives us stability and direction as we navigate through life. With our feet fitted with readiness, we can stand firm against the enemy’s attacks and walk confidently in our mission.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank You for the gospel of peace and the privilege of sharing it with others. Help me to be always ready to spread Your good news, using my words and actions to reflect Your love and grace. Equip me, Lord, with the shoes of readiness, so I may stand firm in my faith and walk in Your path. Let my life be a testament to Your peace, drawing others closer to You.

In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Spreading Peace

Scripture: Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Encouragement:

As followers of Christ, we are called to be peacemakers in a world filled with conflict and strife.

Emma was a violinist who had a unique talent for calming disputes among her fellow musicians. When tempers flared during practice sessions, she would gently intervene, reminding everyone of their shared love for music and their common goal of creating beautiful harmony. Emma’s peaceful spirit brought unity and cohesion to the orchestra.

We are much like Emma. We live in a world where discord often drowns out the melody of peace. As children of God, we are called to be peacemakers, to bring harmony where there is discord, love where there is hate, and understanding where there is confusion.

Being a peacemaker is an essential part of our spiritual armor. It’s like carrying the shield of faith. With it, we can extinguish the flaming arrows of anger, resentment, and division that the enemy throws at us. Our peace, rooted in Christ, becomes a protective barrier that defends us and brings healing to others.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to be a peacemaker in my daily life, reflecting Your love and grace in every situation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

The Power of God’s Word

Scripture: Isaiah 55:11

So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Encouragement:

In our spiritual journey, we are often confronted with challenges that seem insurmountable. Sometimes, we may feel overwhelmed by the trials and tribulations we face. But amidst these storms, there is a powerful weapon at our disposal – the Word of God.

The power of God’s Word is transformative. It has the ability to change hearts, minds, and lives. When we immerse ourselves in Scripture, we are not just reading ancient texts, but we are engaging with the living Word of God. His promises, His commands, His wisdom – all are encapsulated in the Bible.

Isaiah 55:11 assures us of the potency of God’s Word. It does not return void but accomplishes everything God desires. This means that whenever God speaks, His words are always effective. They create, they transform, they heal, they guide, they comfort, they convict, they save.

When we arm ourselves with God’s Word, we are not just wielding a sword, but we are also putting on a shield. It protects us from the lies and deceit of the enemy. It guards our minds, our hearts, and our spirits.

Make it a habit to delve into the Scriptures daily. Allow God’s Word to shape your thoughts, guide your actions, and influence your decisions. As you do so, you will experience the transformative power of God’s Word in your life.

Remember, the Word of God is not just a collection of stories or doctrines. It is a living, active force. It is God Himself, speaking directly to us. And when God speaks, things happen. Lives change. Miracles occur.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for Your Word, a guiding light in my life. Help me to internalize it, to let it shape my thoughts and actions. May Your Word not return void but accomplish Your purpose in me. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Faith: The Victory Over the World

Scripture: 1 John 5:4

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

Encouragement:

In our spiritual journey, we face numerous battles. These battles often take the form of worldly troubles – trials, temptations, doubts, and fears. But there’s one key element in our spiritual armor that gives us victory over these worldly troubles – our faith.

Faith, as defined in Hebrews 11:1, is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. It is trusting in God’s promises even when our circumstances seem to suggest otherwise. It is holding on to God’s goodness even when surrounded by darkness.

The apostle John assures us in 1 John 5:4 that our faith is the victory that overcomes the world. When we put our faith in God, we are empowered to overcome any worldly troubles we may face. Our faith allows us to see beyond our present difficulties and focus on God’s eternal promises.

When we don faith as our shield, we can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Doubts may come, fears may creep in, but our faith will stand firm, knowing that God is in control. Our faith reminds us that no matter what we face, God is with us, and He is for us.

So, let’s hold on to our faith tightly. Let’s nurture it, grow it, and use it as our shield against the world’s troubles. As we do so, we will experience the victorious power of faith in our lives.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of faith, which serves as my shield against the troubles of this world. I pray that You will help me to nurture and grow my faith in You. With faith as my shield, I declare victory over worldly troubles. I trust in Your word that assures me – everyone born of God overcomes the world. Lord, guide me each day as I walk by faith and not by sight, confident in Your power and grace. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Living In Faith

Scripture: Psalm 15:2

The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart.

Encouragement:

In our spiritual walk, truth is a vital component of the armor we’re called to put on. But what does it mean to live in truth?

It goes beyond merely speaking the truth; it’s about embodying truth in our thoughts, words, and actions.

Psalm 15:2 presents a picture of someone who is living in truth. This person lives blamelessly, does what is right, and speaks truth from their heart. Here, truth is not only spoken but deeply rooted within the heart – the core of our being.

Living in truth requires us to align our thoughts with God’s word, to let His truths fill our minds and shape our perspectives. It’s about speaking words that reflect God’s character – words that are honest, kind, and encouraging. And it’s about acting in ways that honor God, demonstrating integrity and love in all we do.

As we put on the belt of truth, we’re girding ourselves with God’s word, allowing it to guide us in every aspect of our lives. The truth of God’s word helps us discern right from wrong, real from fake, and guides us in the path of righteousness.

When we live in truth, we become lights in a world often shrouded in deception and falsehood. We reflect God’s character, showing others a glimpse of His love, grace, and faithfulness.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father: thank You for Your Word, which is the ultimate truth. Help me to embody this truth in my thoughts, words, and actions. May I live blamelessly, do what is right, and speak truth from my heart. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Walk in Peace

Scripture: Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Encouragement:

In the face of life’s battles and turbulent times, one essential piece of our spiritual armor is peace. This peace isn’t merely the absence of conflict but a deep-seated calm that comes from knowing God is in control.

Romans 12:18 instructs us to live at peace with everyone, as much as it depends on us. This means we are called to pursue peace in our interactions with others, not stirring up strife but promoting harmony and understanding.

Walking in peace involves trusting God amidst our circumstances, confident in His sovereignty and goodness. It’s about letting go of our anxieties, surrendering our worries to God, and resting in His promises.

As we put on the shoes of peace, we are prepared to walk through life’s storms with assurance, knowing that God is with us. His peace guards our hearts and minds, keeping us stable and secure amidst the chaos.

Walking in peace doesn’t mean we won’t face challenges or conflicts. But it does mean we can navigate these situations with grace, love, and patience, reflecting the character of Christ.

Strive to walk in peace, spreading harmony wherever you go, and standing firm in the assurance of God’s unfailing love and faithfulness.

Prayer:

Lord, give me the strength to navigate life’s storms with confidence, knowing that You are with me. May I spread Your peace wherever I go, shining Your light in this world. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Choose Your Weapon

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:4

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Encouragement:

Caught amidst the scornful jeers aimed at Goliath, David’s curiosity piqued. He questioned, what would be the reward for the one who could bring down this adversary of God? His faith was unshakeable; he knew God would steer him toward victory. Saul, however, was less than confident about David’s chances. He dismissed David as a mere youth against a seasoned warrior.

But David’s resolve remained unscathed by Saul’s skepticism. He drew upon his past experiences, recalling his encounters with a lion and a bear, and how God had always been his guiding light, his savior. He had no doubt that the same divine force would lead him to triumph over Goliath.

Saul, finally swayed by David’s unwavering faith, readied him for the impending battle, adorning him with his own armor. Donning the helmet, the coat of armor, and the sword of the commander-in-chief, David found himself uncomfortable, the attire far removed from what he was used to.

So, he chose a different path, arming himself with the most unconventional weapons against a giant — five smooth stones and a sling. It was a choice more reminiscent of a child’s plaything than a soldier’s arsenal. But wasn’t it?

While you may not confront a literal giant, every believer journeys through their own valleys of trials and tribulations, grappling with their personal enemies. And the choice of weaponry in these battles is yours to make.

Our divine commander-in-chief has equipped each believer with the necessary armor to conquer the greatest of battles.

Prayer: Dear Lord, when I’m tempted to lean on my understanding and handle matters in my own strength, help me to turn to You. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Stand Firm

Scripture: 1 Peter 5:8-11

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of suffering. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Encouragement:

Sarah was left alone with her thoughts as the sun set, casting long shadows over the peaceful neighborhood. It had been a challenging day, with obstacles that seemed to be stacking up like a mountain in front of her. The stress from work, strained relationships, and the never-ending hustle of life had left her feeling exhausted.

Seeking solace, she reached for her Bible, flipping through its worn pages until she landed on 1 Peter 5:8-11. As she read, the words echoed in her mind, illuminating her heart with newfound courage and understanding.

She realized that she was not alone in her battles. Like her, believers across the globe were wrestling with their own trials and tribulations. But they were not fighting these battles on their own; they had a divine ally, a mighty fortress who would restore, strengthen, and establish them.

Sarah understood that her struggles were not just physical or emotional but spiritual too. The enemy was always seeking an opportunity to strike. But she was not defenseless…

She felt a sense of calm wash over her as she leaned into the assurance of God’s promises and vowed to put on her spiritual armor daily, to stand firm in her faith, and resist the adversary.

Remember, God himself will restore, strengthen, and establish us. So, let’s remain vigilant, sober-minded, and clothe ourselves with spiritual armor each day.

Prayer: Precious Father, thank You for Your abounding grace and love. Reveal to me the areas where I’m not standing firm in faith. Help me not to be so easily distracted by social media, selfish ambition, and the concerns of this world. In Jesus’ precious name we pray, Amen

Secure in Him

Scripture: Isaiah 54:17

“no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” -Isaiah 54:17

Encouragement:

Strong’s Concordance introduces ‘Keliy’, a Hebrew term, as an embodiment of an article, vessel, implement, or utensil. These words, initially spoken to the Israelites in Isaiah 54:17, resonate with all of God’s children. Regardless of the tools, vessels, utensils, or strategies the enemy employs, they will not triumph. Each accusatory voice that rises will be silenced.

How fortunate we are to inherit God’s protection and vindication!

Perhaps, like the Israelites when Isaiah 54 was penned, you find yourself navigating turbulent waters. It may be an unforeseen illness, a loss, persecution, bankruptcy, or a broken marriage. Your reality is far from what you had envisioned, leaving you questioning God’s intentions.

In these moments of trial, when our bodies and minds are under siege, we must not let fear take hold of our hearts. Instead, we must cling steadfastly to God’s truth, knowing that He is by our side in every hardship we face. He not only knows our path but also orchestrates every circumstance for our ultimate good and His glory.

Let us seek solace in Him, fastening the belt of truth securely around us, trusting in His promises, and celebrating the victory He has already declared for us. No matter what life throws at us, God is our ultimate refuge, our beacon of salvation.

Prayer:

Precious Father, thank You for Your promise of protection and guidance. Thank You for keeping me out of the snare of my enemy. I thank You that I am secure in Christ Jesus. Help me not to fear those who wish to do me harm but to confidently look to You for my salvation. Amen

Clothed in the Armor of Right Living

Scripture: Romans 13:12

The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Encouragement:

Paul’s caution to be cognizant of the time still rings true for believers today. Despite how much turmoil, angst, and difficulty we see in the world, its reign will not be forever. Christ will return. And as we wait, we are called to live a life differently from the dark world around us.

Through God’s power and His armor, we can resist conforming to the ways and patterns of the world around us.

Paul’s words are a reminder to the believer to not drift into complacency or be swept away by deception. His instructions to put away darkness and put on the armor of light are daily actions that the believer must choose to do.

Just as we choose our daily wardrobes, we must consciously choose to put on the proper attire for our souls. Put on Christ and His righteousness. Put on truth and peace. Put on faith and hope.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, help me to stay alert and clothed in Your truth and not be drawn away by deception. Help me to be a shining light in a dark world. Show me how to clothe myself in Your armor daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Call to Battle

Scripture: Psalm 27:3

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.

Encouragement:

If you hang around some circles, you may be led to believe that once you choose to follow Christ you have suddenly made it to easy street. You can expect wealth, prosperity and simply enjoy a life of ease.

But just a brief stroll through the Bible and you’ll find testimonies of believers who faced great odds, persecution and even death.

David’s story is quite popular. He went from a mere shepherd boy to king of a nation. Yet his journey to King was not without struggle.

He spent many years alone shepherding the flocks and at the time he had no idea that the lion and the bear he killed while protecting the sheep was a preparation tool for one of his most pivotal battles.

This wasn’t just any battle. Goliath was taunting a whole nation. Trained and skilled fighters were afraid and refused to enter into war against him.

Yet David, a shepherd boy, armed with five smooth stones took on Goliath and won. Defeating Goliath was one of the many battles David faced.

What made a young shepherd boy on an errand for his father confident that he could take down a giant?

In Psalm 27:3 David declares, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war breaks out against me, even then I will be confident.”

David’s confidence came from his experience and history with God.

What battle is brewing in your life? Has your confidence been shaken? Take some time today to look back on the past victories God has given you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, like David, I want to confidently trust You in spite of my circumstances or when others oppose me. Help me to remember Your unfailing love and the mercy You have shown throughout the years.

Take Refuge

Scripture: Psalms 31:20

In the shelter of your presence, you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.

Encouragement:

Many people often avoid watching the news. There’s hardly a segment that is not filled with stories of calamity, disaster, or reports of violence. It’s troubling to see and can easily incite feelings of anxiety.

In Psalms 31, we see David declaring that he chooses to take refuge in the Lord. He uses words like rock, fortress, refuge, and shelter to describe God’s protection.

David was facing difficult times. He spoke of feeling grief, sorrow, abandonment, and loss of strength all while facing opposition from his enemies.

While David didn’t deny his feelings or his circumstances, he confidently stated “but I trust in you Lord, you are my God.”

We too are invited to find comfort and shelter in the Lord’s presence. While we may be tempted to turn to others going through extremely hard times, it is the Holy Spirit who is our ultimate comforter.

What are the things troubling your mind and heart today? What’s causing you to lose sleep? Whether it’s a troubled marriage, a wayward child, financial trouble, or impending legal issues, you can take your concerns to God.

He longs to hear from you. And isn’t it comforting to know that you don’t have to hide your feelings and concerns from the Father?

Under His Shield

Scripture: Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Encouragement:

Have you been walking through a hard season of life? Are you feeling like you’re not quite sure how much more you can take?

God knows and understands the struggle of His people. Even during times of exile, God reminded the Israelites of His faithfulness to them in times past. A brief stroll down memory lane and they could see how He had delivered them from the hand of Pharaoh, provided food in the midst of desert land, and so much more.

God promised to always be with them and that promise is for you as well.

It’s comforting to know even during hard times when it feels as if we may be washed away by the cares and troubles of this world that God is with us.

Fiery challenges and impending dangers don’t scare Him away.

Take some time today to reflect on the many ways that God has proven Himself faithful in times past.

Not Left Alone

Scripture: Psalm 121: 1-2

I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

Encouragement:

From crafting to home renovation, do-it-yourself projects are quite popular. When you have the necessary skills, DIYing a project can save you money and be a creative outlet. It can be personally satisfying to know that you don’t have to rely on someone else to get the job done.

Do-it-yourself is self-sufficiency at its finest.

But have you ever taken on a project you thought you could handle only to find yourself several months behind with a blown budget and even BIGGER problems? Or at least the same existing problem you started with?

For many of us, we take the DIY approach to our lives. Attempting to handle everything ourselves until we find ourselves frazzled and worn out. Only reaching out for help when there are no other options.

But God hasn’t called us to self-sufficiency. He promises to be our help.

If you’re struggling to do it all yourself, look up to where your true help comes from. Your sufficiency is found in dependency on the Maker of heaven and earth. The Creator and Lord of all things.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I admit I’m exhausted from trying to do all the things. Help me to run to You not just in times of need but continually. Teach me how to trust You with the cares and concerns of my heart today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Ultimate Renovator

Scripture: Philippians 1:6

“being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Encouragement:

Home renovation series are some of the most popular television shows to watch. It’s amazing to see an abandoned dilapidated house which many have looked over and discarded as useless to be purchased by someone who has the ability to see beyond the broken windows, tattered flooring, and busted walls.

Somehow the renovators have the ability to see treasure in the midst of a mess.

Every show ends with a beautiful transformation. And after the transformation the property attracts interest from many who never could see the beauty that lies within the original structure.

Home renovators are not the only ones who have the ability to see beauty in the midst of brokenness.

God is the ultimate renovator. All throughout the Bible we read stories of how God has taken messy people and used them to carry a message of hope and purpose to others.

Are there areas in your life that feel messy, broken, or tattered? Be of good cheer friend, God transforms and uses imperfect people for His perfected purpose.

Prayer:

Dear Father, I thank You that what others may deem as useless, you can and do use it for Your purposes. Thank You for the many ways You continue to transform me. Help me to see things and others as You do. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

You Have What You Need

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Encouragement:

As Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy encouraging him to continue the work of the Lord, he reminds him that God had not given him a spirit of timidity.

God not only tells us not to be afraid but gives us everything we need to face the challenge.

What is the work that God has called you to in this season?

Timothy was a young man with a big assignment. It would have been easy for him to feel overwhelmed and unqualified for the task. However, Paul encouraged him to guard and protect through the help of the Holy Spirit that had been entrusted to him.

Just as God empowered Timothy so has He given you both the grace and power for any work you have been called.

When feeling ill-equipped, guard your mind with the Truth of His Word.

Coloring Outside the Lines

Scripture: Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Encouragement:

Julie sat enjoying the afternoon with her grandson. At his invitation, she joined him in coloring a page. Seeing that grandma worked cautiously to stay within the lines, he instructed, “No, Nana, color the whole page.”

Being a toddler, he felt no obligation to stay within the constraints of the coloring images. Instead, he saw the whole page as an available canvas for his artwork.

Admittingly, Julie struggled to embrace the idea of scribbling outside the lines. A part of her wanted instead to show the toddler how coloring was supposed to be done.

But at his constant prompting, she decided to forgo the idea of how coloring “should be done” and instead enjoy the freedom of coloring as a child.

Like Julie’s grandson, we each once colored freely without the fear of judgment or the need to conform to others’ ideas of what seemed right.

Conforming your way of coloring is not a big deal. As we grow up, we learn what’s expected. Yet there are many other subtle ways in which we may find ourselves adapting to the thoughts and patterns of the world around us.

Are there any harmful ways you’ve been conformed?

Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Winning the battle against conformation requires renewing our minds. It’s not a one-and-done event but rather a continual process.

Prayer: Lord reveal to me those areas in which I have allowed myself to be influenced and conformed to the ways of this world. I desire to know what Your good, pleasing and perfect will is for my life. Amen.

Encouragement:

Have you ever gotten to the airport and realized you had forgotten your ID? Or found the flashing blue lights behind you only to discover you didn’t have your purse with your driver’s license?

Just the thought of not having your ID at such pivotal moments probably bring about feelings of panic.

But how many times have you walked out to face the day without garnering your proper identification?

Instead of focusing on the truth of God’s Word, you find yourself rehearsing lies like:

  • I can’t do that.
  • I’m not good enough.
  • I’ll never get past this.
  • Things will never change for me.

On any given day, you may be surprised at the thoughts that race through your mind. If you were to actually take some time to examine them, you might find that many of the words you repeat to yourself are mean and downright lies.

It’s no coincidence that we are reminded in the Bible of the need to renew our minds. God’s truth is our weapon against the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves.

Paul the Apostle said in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Take some time today to intentionally examine your words and thoughts.

Prayer: Dear Father, help me to be cognizant of the subtle lies I often rehearse throughout the day. Thank You that You’ve already given me the strategy for winning the battle in mind. I choose to arm myself with truth.

Guard Your Identity

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Encouragement:

Sometimes, before we even buckle up the Belt of Truth or put on the Breastplate of Righteousness, there’s an adversary lurking in the shadows, attempting to snatch away our very sense of self.

The enemy is crafty, isn’t he? He knows if he can steal our identity, he can make us forget who we are in Christ, leaving us vulnerable and disarmed. But here’s a divine secret the enemy doesn’t want you to know: You are chosen, royal, holy, and God’s special treasure (1 Peter 2:9).

Imagine that! You, my friend, are royalty. You’re not just any knight in shining armor; you’re a royal warrior with a divine calling. Picture this – the King of Kings has personally selected you, polished your armor, and prepared you for the battlefield. Now that’s a plot twist the enemy didn’t see coming!

But remember, knowing your identity is only half the battle. The other half is standing firm in it, no matter how fiercely the enemy attacks. When he whispers lies, combat them with the truth of who you are in Christ. When he tries to sow doubt, remind yourself of your royal lineage.

Stand firm. Guard your identity and let it empower you as you put on your spiritual armor.

Prayer:

Lord, I thank You for reminding me of my true identity. I am chosen, royal, holy, and Your special possession. As I put on each piece of my spiritual armor, help me to remember who I am in You. When the enemy tries to steal my identity, remind me of Your truth. Grant me the strength to stand firm in my identity, to face every attack with courage and faith. Thank You for empowering me for this spiritual battle. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

What’s Your Signature Style?

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-11

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Encouragement:

Are you the fashionista who can be found with all the latest trendy fashion and the most popular labels?

Perhaps you’re the kind of girl who feels most at home in a soft, comfy t-shirt coupled with your favorite pair of jeans.

Or maybe you go for a more sophisticated, traditionally classic vibe.

Whatever the case, we all have clothing that makes us feel confident, comfortable, and more like ourselves. One’s signature style is impacted by personal preferences, body type, financial resources, and stage in life. But there are also many outside influences like magazines, tv shows, and social media that are vying to shape your wardrobe.

In Ephesians 6, Paul reminds us as believers that God has fashioned for each of us essential garments. And we are cautioned to wear the whole armor. Not just to be trendy but so that we can withstand the schemes and tricks of the enemy.

The enemy uses many methods to cause division, distrust, temptation, and discouragement in our lives. Yet clothing ourselves in God’s signature attire gives us what we need to stand on His truths confidently.

You have been granted access to clothing from the ultimate designer–God. A wonderful gift of protection. But it does no good unless you wear it.

Are there pieces of God’s armor that you’ve laid aside?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for graciously providing me with all that I need. Show me where I have been underdressed, thus leaving myself vulnerable and exposed. And teach me how to put on the whole armor. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

Don’t Forget Your Helmet

Scripture: Ephesians 6:17

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Encouragement:

No one encourages a football player to take the field without his helmet nor a motorcyclist to hit the road without strapping on their helmet. Yet how often do we walk in the battles of life without adorning our noggins with the head gear provided to us through Christ?

Apostle Paul urges the believer to put on every piece of God’s armor. No piece was without value and missing any one piece would leave the believer unprotected and exposed to the enemy’s strategies.

Like the football or motorcycle helmet, the helmet of salvation provides protection to the head and mind – our thinking center.

And it’s in our minds, thoughts, and imaginations where the enemy starts his attacks and wages some of the fiercest battles against the believer. Which is why it’s important to guard our hearts and minds. The thoughts we think are so important that the Bible instructs us what to think. Philippians 4:8 tells us to focus on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy.

If you took a moment to replay your thoughts over the last few weeks, days, hours, or minutes, how would your thoughts line up with the Philippians’ list?

Putting on the helmet of salvation means we use the very mind of Christ to fight against the crafty lies and subtle doubts implanted by the enemy. Are you arming yourself by filling your mind with the truth of God’s Word daily?

Prayer:

Dear Lord, thank You for salvation that is secure in Christ Jesus. As I go throughout the day, help me to take every thought captive that is contrary to Your Word and bring it into alignment with the thoughts of Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Truth Unveiled

Scripture: John 8:32

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Encouragement:

As Believers, we often hear, “The truth will set you free,” but do we truly understand what it means?

When Jesus talks about the ‘truth,’ He refers not just to honesty or factual correctness. It is a profound reality that encompasses God’s unchanging nature, His promises, and His divine plan for our lives. It is an absolute that guides us, molds us, and ultimately sets us free.

I recall a time in my life when I was bound by the chains of deceit. I wore masks to fit into different groups, trying to please everyone. But the weight of these lies started to suffocate me. It was only when I embraced God’s truth about who I was – His beloved child – that I found true freedom. The masks fell away, revealing a life of authenticity and purpose.

You see, truth is like a shining beacon in a world shrouded in darkness. It guides us, illuminating the path toward righteousness. Just as a ship uses a lighthouse to avoid dangerous rocks, we use God’s truth to navigate through life’s challenges. It empowers us to overcome obstacles, keeping us safe from the destructive consequences of sin.

Living a life of truth means embodying honesty, transparency, and integrity in our thoughts, words, and actions. It’s like a mirror reflecting God’s image to the world around us. When we choose truth, we choose to reject the lies that the enemy tries to sow in our minds. We choose to stand firm in our identity in Christ, secure in His love and acceptance.

Prayer Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your truth that sets me free. Thank You for Your Word that guides me, and Your Spirit that leads me into all truth. Give me the courage to live out this truth daily, to walk in honesty, transparency, and integrity. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

The Righteous Life

Scripture: Psalm 112:6

Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.

Encouragement:

A righteous life is not merely about following a set of rules or performing religious rituals. It’s a life lived in alignment with God’s Word, a life that reflects His character of love, mercy, justice, and truth. It’s a life that, despite its ups and downs, remains unshaken because it’s anchored in God’s promises.

Let me share a personal story with you. Some years ago, I found myself facing a predicament where the easiest way out was to compromise my values. It was a business deal that promised great financial gain but required a slight bending of the rules. The world said it was okay, but God’s Word said otherwise. In that moment, I had to choose – the temporary comfort of worldly success or the eternal peace that comes from living righteously. I chose the latter. Yes, I had to let go of that lucrative deal, but the peace I experienced was priceless.

This experience taught me that righteousness strengthens our spiritual armor. When we choose to live righteously, we become impervious to the enemy’s attacks. Our integrity becomes our shield, and our commitment to God’s Word becomes our sword. We stand firm, not because of our strength, but because the righteousness of Christ dwells within us.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank You for Your Word that guides me to live a righteous life. Help me to align my thoughts, words, and actions with Your will. May Your righteousness be my shield and my sword, strengthening my spiritual armor against the enemy’s attacks. Let me not be moved by the trials of this world but let me stand firm in Your promises. In all that I do, may I reflect Your character of love, mercy, justice, and truth. May my life bring glory to You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Righteousness and Justice

Scripture: Psalm 33:5

The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.

Encouragement:

In the grand scheme of our spiritual journey, we often grapple with understanding God’s character. One aspect that stands out prominently and that God values deeply is righteousness and justice. These twin pillars not only define His character but also serve as a guide for us in our walk of faith.

Psalm 33:5 paints a vivid picture of God’s love for righteousness and justice. It reaffirms that these qualities are not just abstract concepts but are fundamental to the essence of God. He doesn’t merely act righteously and justly; He IS righteous and just.

Righteousness refers to God’s perfect moral integrity. He is holy, pure, and without sin. As believers, we are called to mirror this righteousness in our own lives. We are urged to live in a way that aligns with God’s laws and commands, striving to maintain moral uprightness in our thoughts, words, and actions.

Justice, on the other hand, speaks to God’s fair and impartial treatment of all His creation. God is the ultimate judge who holds everyone accountable according to their deeds. He defends the oppressed, provides for the needy, and punishes the wicked. As followers of Christ, we too are called to pursue justice, stand against oppression, and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves.

As we put on the breastplate of righteousness and wield the sword of justice, we can stand firm against the enemy’s attacks. The pursuit of righteousness and justice protects our hearts and directs our actions, enabling us to reflect God’s character in our lives.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your righteousness and justice. I thank You for being a God who is perfectly fair and morally upright. Help me to understand these aspects of Your character more deeply and to reflect them in my life. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Peace Beyond Understanding

Scripture: Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Encouragement:

The divine peace Paul speaks about is not a mere absence of conflict. It’s a profound calm that envelops us, even when the world is in turmoil around us.

Eli was a humble farmer who lived in a small village nestled between mountains. Despite living in a region prone to unpredictable storms and harsh climates, Eli was known for his unwavering tranquility. His peace was so palpable that it affected everyone who encountered him.

One year, the village experienced the worst storm in its history. Homes were destroyed, crops were uprooted, and fear gripped the hearts of the villagers. Amidst the chaos, Eli remained calm. He opened his home to those left homeless, shared his food with those in need, and comforted the frightened. His peace was like a beacon in the storm.

When the storm subsided, the villagers asked Eli the secret to his peace. He replied, “It’s the peace of God, which transcends all understanding. It guards my heart and mind, keeping fear and worry at bay. This peace prepares me for any storm life may bring.”

Just like Eli, we too can experience this divine peace. It is part of our spiritual armor, acting like shoes that steady us on rocky ground. This peace doesn’t promise a storm-free life, but it guarantees an unshakeable calm amidst life’s storms.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank You for Your peace that surpasses all comprehension. Even in the midst of life’s fiercest storms, Your peace stands as a guard over my heart and mind. I ask that this divine peace fill me, guide me, and prepare me for whatever lies ahead. Help me, Lord, to put on Your spiritual armor every day, so that I may stand firm against the enemy’s attacks. May Your peace be my constant companion, reminding me always that You are in control. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.

Our Prayer

Faith Moves Mountains

Scripture: Matthew 17:20

He replied, ‘Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’

Encouragement:

It doesn’t matter how big or daunting the challenge is, faith has the potential to overcome it. Even faith as tiny as a mustard seed – one of the smallest seeds yet it grows into a large tree.

Imagine being in a dense forest, surrounded by towering trees and undergrowth. You see a mountain in the distance that you need to reach, but the path is unclear and filled with obstacles. This is akin to the challenges we often face in life. However, faith acts like a machete in this forest, helping us cut through the underbrush and forge a path toward the mountain.

When we equip ourselves with the shield of faith, as part of our spiritual armor, we can extinguish the flaming arrows of doubt, fear, and discouragement that the enemy throws at us. Faith doesn’t make the mountain smaller; it makes us stronger, empowering us to move that mountain.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of faith. I pray that even when I face mountains in my life, I will not be discouraged or fearful. Help me to remember that my faith, no matter how small, has the power to move these mountains. Strengthen my faith, Lord, each day. May it be a shield protecting me from doubt and fear, and may it empower me to overcome the challenges I face. Help me to trust in Your promises and to believe that nothing is impossible with You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
